Join us as we dive into an exclusive interview with the talented decathlete, Sven Roosen. After his impressive qualification for the Olympics, Sven shares his journey, preparation, and aspirations for the upcoming Paris Olympics. Athletics enthusiasts, this is a story of determination, strategy, and the pursuit of excellence in the decathlon.
The journey to Paris
Following his magnificent qualification for the Olympic Games, we had a brief conversation with Sven Roosen. We reflected on his performance in Götzis, the attention it garnered, and also looked ahead to his preparations for the Olympics in Paris. It’s now only two weeks until Sven will take the start in Paris!
When we spoke with Sven in April about his preparations for Götzis, he emphasized that everything has to come together in the decathlon. He was realistic yet confident in his abilities: “If everything falls into place, something truly amazing can happen!”
In Götzis, Sven managed to qualify for the Olympic Games in Paris, securing a second place with a personal record of 8517 points. Despite this unique achievement, Sven’s focus is already on August. Reflecting on past achievements is enjoyable, but the goal is the horizon ahead. To celebrate, Sven didn’t get a tattoo of the Olympic rings but instead bought a good espresso machine.
The dream achieved
Previously, qualifying for the Olympics was a dream for Sven. However, the actual moment of qualification did not bring immense satisfaction. Perhaps that will come in or after Paris, but for now, Sven remains very relaxed and composed. His ultimate goal is to be “a happy person,” a goal even bigger than the Olympic dream. Sven finds happiness in participating in enjoyable competitions.
Maintaining form
To maintain his form leading up to Paris, Sven has participated in several individual events in recent weeks. Competing against strong opponents, like in the 200 meters at the Dutch Championships where Sven clocked a new personal best.
To ensure he is sharp at the start in Stade de France, Sven believes it’s crucial to stay relaxed. He intends to continue doing what he has been doing for the past years: “On weekends, visiting my parents, enjoying a glass of wine, being myself, and everything will be fine! In the end, it’s ten events, just like any other decathlon. Only the setting is different.”
Starting next week, Sven will join the athletics team for a precamp before heading to Paris on July 28. The team will have the opportunity to experience the stadium. On August 2 and 3, it’s showtime: “I’m not going there as a tourist but aiming for a great result! I hope to come close to my performance in Gotzis!”
We wish Sven the best of luck in Paris and are ready to cheer him on to that top performance! Best of luck, Sven! Your journey to Paris is an inspiration to us all.
