As we kick off the new year, we’re thrilled to bring you the Fonto 8.11 release. This update sets the stage for an exciting year ahead, packed with new features, foundational improvements, and a strong commitment to accessibility, AI integration, and multi-lingual support. Whether you’re a long-time user or new to Fonto, we’re confident these updates will make your structured content workflows more efficient and enjoyable.
Fonto Editor
This release, we focused much of our effort on Fonto Review, which means no major new features were introduced for Fonto Editor. However, we’ve implemented several minor improvements and resolved a variety of bugs based on support tickets. Accessibility remains a top priority, and we’ve enhanced screen reader support by adding more descriptive ARIA attributes. Additionally, we’ve introduced the ability to load localization files from external sources, allowing you to manage interface translations more effectively.
Fonto Review
We are preparing for the exciting introduction of “Suggestion Mode” in 2025. While this feature is not included in 8.11, we have laid the groundwork for it in this release, with foundational updates to be included in 8.12. These updates include Just-In-Time loading of comments, which will reduce the load on your CMS. We’ve also addressed several performance and stability issues, ensuring Fonto Review is ready for the next level of enhancements. Stay tuned for more updates as we continue to build on this foundation.
Fonto Output
We’re thrilled to announce the first release of Fonto Output in 8.11. This new product is being tested in closed beta with select customers and partners to ensure a smooth rollout in the future. Fonto Output enables fast previews and publication of documents to Word, PDF, HTML, and XML formats. By leveraging familiar configuration concepts from Fonto Editor, we’ve made it easy for users to get started without needing to learn a new setup. If you’re interested in exploring Fonto Output, please reach out to us for more details.
Fonto Integrated Authoring Platform
Fonto 8.11 introduces some exciting updates across the Fonto Integrated Authoring Platform. One of the highlights is the integration of AI systems directly within the editor through a new sidebar. This implementation is designed to be agnostic, allowing you to connect your preferred AI tools. Users can write prompts and send them to the AI, which generates contextually relevant responses based on the selection and metadata provided. These responses are then delivered back to the editor, where users can incorporate them into their documents.
We’ve also added support for multi-lingual content, preparing the platform for future releases that will enable document translation requests. Additionally, the SDK has been extended to allow further customization of outputs. This includes adding new output templates and configuring advanced styling options such as automatic numbering.
What’s Next?
Looking ahead, we’re excited to continue building on the progress made in this release. For Fonto Review, we will deliver foundational updates that support new features without requiring changes to your existing configuration. For Fonto Output, our focus remains on performance and stability improvements, as well as integrating it with other Fonto products like Fonto Review and Document History. This will enable seamless workflows for publishing redline documents and exporting comments.
On the Integrated Authoring Platform, we’ll continue to enhance support for multi-lingual content and expand AI capabilities. Accessibility remains a key focus area across all our products, and we’re eager to gather feedback from users with disabilities to help us improve their experience with Fonto.
